Landscaping for Tuckahoe's Compact Lots and Co-op Grounds
Tuckahoe packs a lot into less than a square mile: apartment buildings by the train station, two-family houses on narrow lots, and small backyards that have to work hard. We plan every job around tight access and limited space.
With houses this close together, privacy comes from arborvitae, privet and yew planted along the property line. Left alone, they grow wide, shade the lawn and push into walkways and driveways. We trim them to a tapered shape that keeps the base full, cut back growth that crowds the sidewalk, and refresh the mulch underneath so the bed reads clean from the street.

Small backyards that need a usable surface
Plenty of Tuckahoe backyards are too small or too shaded to sustain a good lawn. A modest paver or bluestone patio, sometimes ringed by a narrow planting strip, often makes more sense. We excavate and build a compacted base so the surface stays level, and we set the pitch so rainwater moves away from the house toward a spot that can absorb it.

Co-op and apartment grounds near the station
Multi-family buildings along the village's busier streets need entrances that look cared for every week, not only in spring. We set up routine visits for mowing, edging, bed cleanup, seasonal flower changes and shrub pruning, with one point of contact for the board or management company. Commercial insurance paperwork is ready whenever your building asks for it.
Caring for Tuckahoe properties
Tuckahoe is one of the smallest villages in Westchester, and that shapes how we work here. Many houses sit on narrow lots off Main Street and Columbus Avenue, with a driveway on one side and a neighbor's fence a few feet away on the other. Equipment has to fit through a side gate, mulch often goes in by wheelbarrow, and every planting bed is on display from the sidewalk. We size our crews and tools for exactly that kind of yard.
The village also has a large share of apartment buildings, co-ops and two-family homes, especially within walking distance of the Metro-North station. Boards and property managers need predictable visits, tidy entry plantings and hedges kept off the walkways. Homeowners usually want something different: a small paver patio, a cleaner foundation bed, or a hedge that finally gives some privacy. Our bilingual team handles both, a short drive down from our White Plains base.

My Tuckahoe backyard has no driveway access. Can you still build a patio?
Usually, yes. On narrow lots we bring materials through a side yard or gate using compact equipment and wheelbarrows, and we protect lawns and walkways along the route. During the free estimate we measure that access path, so the plan, the schedule and the final cleanup all account for it before any digging begins.
Do you work with co-op boards and building managers in Tuckahoe?
Yes. We maintain grounds for co-ops, condos and multi-family buildings, and we can send a Certificate of Insurance to your board or managing agent. Together we agree on a visit schedule, a scope for each season and a single contact person, so residents see consistent results and nobody on the board has to chase a contractor.
What can I plant in a shady Tuckahoe yard where grass keeps dying?
Under mature trees and between close-set houses, shade-tolerant groundcovers, ferns, hostas, hellebores and shrubs such as hydrangea or boxwood usually outperform turf. We check how many hours of sun the area really gets, look at the soil, and suggest a bed layout that needs less effort than reseeding bare grass every spring.
