Seasonal Yard Care for Valhalla, Thornwood and Hawthorne
The Town of Mount Pleasant covers a lot of ground, from the Kensico Dam in Valhalla to the wooded hills around Pocantico. What ties it together for us is the work each season brings: leaves in fall, cleanup in spring, steady mowing in between.
Mount Pleasant is a big, varied town. Valhalla sits below the Kensico Reservoir, Hawthorne and Thornwood stretch along the Taconic and Saw Mill parkways, and the Village of Pleasantville anchors the north end. Many homes in these hamlets are post-war capes, ranches and split-levels on modest lots, often backing onto woods. That combination means a heavy autumn leaf drop, plenty of winter debris, and lawns that need a dependable crew from April through November.
Our approach here is built around the calendar. Spring cleanups clear matted leaves, cut back perennials and edge beds before the first mow. Weekly lawn care keeps things even through summer, and in fall we return as many times as your trees require. For homeowners with sloped backyards, we also build stone and block retaining walls that hold soil in place and add flat space. It is an easy drive north from our White Plains base.
What Mount Pleasant yards need through the year
01
Big leaf volume from wooded lot lines
Lots that back onto woods, or that sit under old oaks and maples, collect leaves well into December. Our fall cleanups blow out beds, clear lawns, cut back perennials and haul the debris away so the grass is not smothered over winter. Properties with heavy canopy are usually best served by an early visit and a late one.
02
Lawns that need consistency, not just mowing
Many Thornwood and Hawthorne lawns are a patchwork after years of different services. We mow on the same day each week with sharp blades and a cutting height suited to summer heat, edge sidewalks and beds, and recommend early-fall aeration and overseeding to thicken thin areas. Maintenance routes usually begin within one to two weeks of signing up.
03
Slopes and old stone walls
Hilly backyards and crumbling fieldstone walls turn up all across the town. We rebuild or replace failing walls with properly drained stone or segmental block, set steps into slopes, and create terraces for planting or a level lawn. Where an older wall still has character, we can often reset its stones rather than replace it outright.

What clients say
“Roman Design & Landscaping has been taking care of our property for at least 8-10 years. I run two businesses from my home and they have done an excellent job. They also rebuilt our cement landings and stairs leading outside from the front and side entrances of the property. Roman's company beautifully fixed all of our stairs and walkways, making sure the stair heights were within the current building codes!! We highly recommend Roman Design & Landscaping!!”
Do you serve all of Mount Pleasant, including Valhalla, Thornwood and Hawthorne?
Yes. We work throughout the Town of Mount Pleasant, including the hamlets of Valhalla, Thornwood, Hawthorne and Pocantico Hills and the Village of Pleasantville. Sleepy Hollow, also part of the town, has its own page on our site. If you are unsure whether your street is on our route, call or text and we will confirm.
When should I schedule my spring cleanup in Thornwood?
Most spring cleanups happen from late March through April, once the ground is firm enough that equipment will not rut the lawn. Booking in late winter gets you an earlier slot. If your beds are holding a lot of matted leaves from last fall, we remove those first so new growth can come through cleanly.
Can you repair an old fieldstone wall instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the base stones are sound and the wall has only shifted or lost a few stones, we take down the leaning section and relay it with better drainage behind. Walls that bulge badly or hold back a lot of soil may need a full rebuild. We assess it on site and explain both options.
